As with the other Worm Gods, Yul's origins are unknown. At some point, he and the other Worm Gods - [[Eir]], [[Ur]], [[Xol]], [[Akka]], and their mother [[Xita]] - were trapped deep within the gas giant planet [[Fundament]].

When the progenitors of the [[Hive]] - three sisters named [[Oryx, the Taken King|Aurash]], [[Xivu Arath|Xi Ro]], and [[Savathûn|Sathona]] - delved into the core of [[Fundament]] and encountered the Worm Gods, Yul addressed them and offered a bargain: allow their bodies to be parasitized by the Worm Gods' larvae in exchange for immortality and paracausal abilities.
