The ''Light and Darkness Saga'' is about [[The Traveler]] and its battle against a collective consciousness that uses the [[Darkness]] known as [[The Witness]], fleeing across the galaxy to find powerful heralds of its [[Light|power]] to combat opposing forces.

[[Eramis, Kell of Darkness|Eramis]], the leader of a new Fallen [[House of Salvation|House]] on Europa, gifts her followers the power of [[Stasis]]. To stop her and the Barons of this new House, the Guardian had to learn how to use the Darkness in defense of the Last City through Stasis taught by [[Elisabeth Bray|Elsie Bray]], aka the Exo Stranger. '''Season of the Hunt''' saw the Guardian work with Uldren Sov, now reborn as Crow, to track down and slay the [[High Celebrant of Xivu Arath]], with its death giving Crow freedom from Spider's service. '''Season of the Chosen''' saw the Guardian engage in [[Rite of Proving|Rites of Proving]] in order to gain [[Empress Caiatl]]'s favor. '''Season of the Splicer''' had the Guardian seek out [[Mithrax, Kell of Light|Mithrax]]'s assistance in shutting down a Vex simulation that would threaten the Last City. '''Season of the Lost''' had Mara Sov task the Guardian with freeing the [[Techeun]]s lost within the [[Ley Line]]s from [[Xivu Arath, God of War|Xivu Arath]]'s forces in order for the exorcism to remove [[Savathûn, the Witch Queen|Savathûn]]'s worm to commence.

The Witness's forces arrive on Earth's orbit and it discovers [[The Veil|the Veil]] is hidden in a [[Neomuna|city]] on Neptune after making contact with the Traveler. The Guardian was able to help the [[Cloud Strider]]s [[Rohan]] and [[Nimbus]] repel a siege orchestrated by the [[Shadow Legion]] and its leader, the newly-risen Disciple of the Witness, Calus. They would also learn the power of Strand in the process. Despite Calus's defeat, the Witness was able to begin its attempt to enact the [[Final Shape]] by using the Guardian's Ghost to connect the Veil to the Traveler and open a portal to the Traveler's Pale Heart. After stopping a resurrected Nezarec from haunting the citizens of Neomuna, they would soon learn from [[Soteria]]'s submind that an "[[Ahsa|enemy of the Witness]]" is hiding on Titan. '''Season of Defiance''' saw the Coalition forces work together to rescue prisoners captured by the Shadow Legion throughout Earth. '''Season of the Deep''' saw the Guardian assist Deputy Commander [[Sloane]] in forming a psychic connection with Ahsa so she can provide information regarding the Witness to the Vanguard and its allies. '''Season of the Witch''' had the Guardian help [[Immaru]] eliminate Xivu Arath before he can resurrect Savathûn, and the Vanguard get the instructions needed to follow the Witness inside the portal. '''Season of the Wish''' sees the Guardian make a bargain with the spirit of Riven to secure her and [[Taranis]]' eggs from the Sol Divisive, Scorn, and Taken to grant the 15th wish: a wish to safely bypass the portal. '''Into the Light''' serves as a seasonal interlude during which the Witness calls upon its forces in siege of the Last City, with [[Shaxx]] leading a counteroffensive to defend against the ensuing [[Onslaught]].

After the 15th wish was granted by Riven and the Guardian clears the interference preventing Crow from entering the [[The Pale Heart|Pale Heart]] by destroying the Black Heart again, his paracausal connection with Mara allows them to safely cross the portal. The Vanguard and the Guardian would cross the portal, but become separated in the process. After successfully crossing through the portal, the Traveler guides the Guardian throughout the Pale Heart as the Witness attempts to enact its Final Shape by using both Light and Darkness to create a perfect stillness within the universe. They would eventually reunite with Cayde-6, Crow, and the Vanguard after the Guardian breaks the barrier between Light and Darkness through the discovery of [[Prismatic]]. After learning more about the Witness and its dissenters, they were able to wound it by entering a realm of Darkness and destroying the statues of its dissenters with the Light, but the Witness becomes enraged at the Vanguard’s refusal to join its side. They were forced to flee as the Witness transforms into a grotesque being, but Mara was able to bring the [[The Coalition|Coalition]] into the Pale Heart to prepare the Guardian for the assault on the Witness's monolith. After spending time with the Coalition allies and [[Micah-10]], then acquiring a final gift from the Traveler in the form of [[Ergo Sum]], they would begin their assault on the monolith and confront the Witness at the monolith’s summit. The Guardian was able to force the Witness out of the monolith and permanently prevent the Final Shape from being enacted, giving the Coalition an opportunity to defeat the Witness once and for all. The Coalition was finally able to defeat the Witness, ending the war but also creating paracausal artifacts called [[Echo (object)|Echo]]es that eventually falls into the possession of individuals such as the [[Maya Sundaresh|Conductor]] and [[Fikrul, the Fanatic|Fikrul]].
