The founders of the Ishtar Collective constructed the first human colony on Venus, an outpost that would later become the Ishtar Academy. The subsequent discovery of [[Vex]] ruins immediately drew humanity's top scientists there; [[Campus 9]] was one of the first research centers built to study the ruins and consisted of prefabricated structures. Upon arriving at Neptune, the colonists discovered the paracausal entity known as the [[the Veil|Veil]], which protected them from the local [[Vex]] presence and enabled them to establish a colony that would later become the hidden city of [[Neomuna]].

The Ishtar Collective no longer exists in the modern day, although an unknown number of copies of Collective researchers persist within the Vex Network, and the original version of Maya Sundaresh managed to survive into the present by transferring her consciousness into the Darkness of the Veil during her time in Neomuna, reincarnating centuries later within a Vex-constructed [[Exo]] body on [[Nessus]] with the aid of the [[Echo of Command]]. 

During their exploration of the Black Garden, the Guardian discovered an Ishtar Collective symbol made out of Vex architecture; it is currently unknown what this monument specifically signifies.<ref name ="Starcrossed"/>
