Return to The Dreadnaught
Return to The Dreadnaught
Expand-section
Following two incidents involving the Echoes, the Guardians would hear reports of a resurgence of activity upon Oryx's vessel, The Dreadnaught, after being derelict for years following the Taken King's fall. Eris and the Drifter set out for the Dreadnaught while they assigned the Guardian to Trostland in the EDZ after learning that a large concentration of Taken energies landed there leading the corruptive energies of the Taken to spread. As the Guardian battled through a new form of Taken, called Dire Taken, Eris and the Drifter made it to the Dreadnaught, finding it different than it once was, infested and decaying from Taken energies, leading Eris to theorize that a new will is in command of the Taken. The Guardian eventually finds the source of the corruption, an Eversion Anchor as Eris called it. The Anchor's purpose is not to take the planet but to pull the Ascendent Plane onto Earth, essentially turning the world inside out. Fortunately, the Guardian slays the anchor's protector, Gorkall, the Gatekeeper but as they approach the anchor, the Guardian is pulled into the Ascendent Plane forcing them to navigate the darkened realm while fighting off more Dire Taken before finding themselves transported to the Dreadnaught.

Now upon Oryx's flagship for the first time since the Taken War, the Guardian works on meeting up with Drifter and Eris but is informed that the two had located a piece of the Tablets of Ruin, the method on how Oryx learned to Take. Unfortunately, the pair find themselves swarmed by Dire Taken. Within the Hall of Souls, the duo managed to fend off the swarm before finding themselves ambushed by a Dread Subjugator called The Resonant Knife, First of the Reshaped who overpowers Eris and ultimately kills her, much to Drifter's horror. They entity took its leave dragging Eris's body to the Dreadnaught's depths, Drifter gives chase as the Guardian likewise fights their way towards their position but not before the Guardian slays Felghul the Requisitioner and acquires the Tablet piece. Making their way towards the Mausoleum, the Guardian looses contact with Drifter but manages to thwart a ritual performed by The Resonant Knife and its Dread legions. Though the Subjugator escapes, they find Drifter and revive him. Unfortunately, they also find Eris dead, much to Drifters' sorrow. Unknown to all, however, Eris did not actually die for she was instead transported to her very own Throne World that was created during her time as the Hive God of Vengeance. She would call her new realm, the High Heresy.
