After news of the Queen's survival was broadcast across the Reef, Fen contacted Petra and apologized to her for doubting her belief in Mara. Due to bad connection, Fen could not make out the expression on Petra's face, but she dismissed his apology by claiming his doubts did not matter now. However, Fen told her it did matter and, with difficulty, confessed that he and many others had felt she was unworthy of her position and believed that Mara had favored her for the wrong reasons. He then admitted that with everything that had gone wrong since the Taken War he had felt he would be better off in charge of the Reef than Petra, but now understood that the true job Petra had been left was to keep the faith in Mara and her plans and that only Petra could have succeeded in doing so.<ref name="Vouchsafe"/>
