Fynch was one of many Ghosts allegedly persuaded by Immaru to abandon humanity and the Last City to serve Savathûn's Lucent Brood, under the belief that the Traveler had abandoned humanity and chosen the Hive as its new protectors. However, he began to have second thoughts about serving the Hive when he saw them using the Light against Guardians - leading his Knight partner "Ken" to question Fynch's allegiance. Frightened he was about to be exposed by his Lightbearer, Fynch either killed Ken or simply decided not to resurrect him after he was killed. When the Guardian ventured into Savathûn's Throne World and began stirring the Lucent Brood, Fynch reached out to them and eventually joined their efforts in unraveling Savathûn's latest scheme.

*"Hey, y'know, get awkward out of the way, first. I always say! This pile of ash and bone? Well, used to be my uh... Actually? Don't worry about it. All you need to know. Us wandering Ghosts gave in to the Hive believing we'd "found purpose." and, well - Peer pressure's a hell of a thing, huh?"
Expand-section
*"Yo, uh... while you're out and about taking down Hive, uh, let me know if you happen to overhear any chatter about Ken." "Oh, right, yeah, sorry. Uh, Ken is my Knight. Y'know, the dead big guy I hang around. Ken's not his real of course... just what I call him. I got a little too trusting one day, and well, y'know... tried to get 'em to see things my way. Turn out he wasn't fond of the anti-Hive rhetoric. Surprise! Hoo hoo.. surprise! Anyway, uh, he was gonna turn me in so I, uh... "dealt with it." Just hoping the other Hive out there haven't noticed his absence."
*"Hey, yeah, got some new leads. Good stuff."
*"Investigation's like the dance, yeah? You can know all the steps, but it is useless without the music. So I'm gonna hum a few bars for you."
*"Warlock, perfect, I need an expert, like, in spiritual matters."
*"I've been waiting to talk to you about this all day."
*"I've been putting some of these, you know, pieces together. You want a peek?"
*"Hey, come here, let's put our heads together, connect some dots."
*"Hey, hey, are you there?" "Oh, good, good, good, good! I've been trying to reach you! I couldn't get through. Look, I got another tip for you - big lead on your next clue. So, uh, come meet me. No time to lose."
*"Wow. The unkillable... is dead. Ha, the Witness must be shaking in its boots, yeah? Oh man, you Guardians! You're always pulling off the unimaginable. I never knew the guy personally, but word on the street was Rhulk had been the, uh, proverbial thorn in Savathûn's side for, like, eons, really. But now, both of them are... y'know... in the ground. Which means nobody's controlling that Pyramid, and the Scorn see the opportunity. Their control could lead us right back to another Rhulk-sized problem, so if you, y'know, don't mind, maybe keep the place under our control instead? And who knows? Maybe in the process, we'll learn something more about Rhulk, or even better - the Witness. Good luck in there, friend!"
*"So this Pyramid weapon scours the Light, but the Hive never used one... tells me the Witness never trusted them with it. What other surprises has he got?"
