His death in the Sunken Lair would not deter Randal from facing defeat. Some time following the events of Lightfall, Randal would be captured by the forces of the Weavers of Sorrow in their attempt to usurp control of the Cosmodrome. He would be brought aboard the Nephilim and detained within the Subjugated Vault. He would attempt to breach his containment on many occasions to the point in which the warden and captain of the Nephilim, Shin'ra, the Sorrow-Maker, would allow the Guardians to access the vault and kill Randal. His actions would lead to the deaths of the many prisoners, leading to many of them holding a grudge against the undying Vandal.

Guardians would eventually head into the Subjugated Vault in an attempt to kill Randal, who was believed to have been killed in the attempt. However, he would survive his encounter with the Guardians and would be the first and only person to have successfully escaped from the Vault, unscathed. It is unknown, even to Shin'ra, how he was able to escape the Vault, however some evidence suggests that he purposely freed Randal to see chaos into the Sol System.
His actions would lead to the deaths of the many prisoners, leading to many of them holding a grudge against the undying Vandal.

The Thieving Vandal
With the enemies of Humanity assaulting on the home fronts of the Last City, Cosmodrome and Iron Temple, the robotic dog named Archie would journey to Old Russia to discover the ancient Golden Age secrets that could be found. Traveling across the Cosmodrome to many locales like the Loot Cave, Terrestrial Complex and the Warmind Bunker deep below the Grottos, Randal would make his return as he hunted Archie with the Guardian in tow.

Randal would be one step ahead of the Guardians as they tracked Archie's footprints across the Cosmodrome, eventually reaching the old lair of the Devil Archon and containing the robotic dog within an Ether barrier. The Guardian would reach Archie's location along with Randal and his vast reinforcements, including Servitors and a Brig. After a gruesome struggle, Randal would flee the scene before the Guardian would end the undying Vandal and free Archie from his captor.
