Season of Defiance is the 20th season of Destiny 2 and the first season of the Lightfall cycle, which began with the launch of the Lightfall expansion on February 28th, and ends on May 22nd. The story consist of the forces of The Coalition rescuing prisoners captured by the Shadow Legion on Earth following The Witness's assault on The Traveler.

Story: Defy Our End
- "In the aftermath of the attack on the Traveler, the Vanguard calls upon its closest allies. Guardians must master the righteous powers of the Awoken to stand against the encroaching Shadow Legion and prove themselves as Queensguard."
Activity: Defiant Battlegrounds
- "In this new three-player matchmade activity, bypass the Shadow Legion’s security by entering their outposts from the Ascendant Plane. Navigate the abyss and rescue your captive allies by completing rituals that open gateways to safety."
